The Benefits of Custom Made Athletic Mouth Guards for Football

Can you feel the Texas heat? With the heat comes the smell of football. Thousands of high school boys are preparing for the much anticipated 2016 football season. Coaches are making plans for ‘two a days’ and practice fields are being prepared for ‘reps.’

You might not expect it, but my team and I have been preparing for the football season as well. While we don’t expect to run laps at 6 in the morning or hit the weights after a busy afternoon, we are gathering supplies for the fabrication of custom made professional quality athletic mouth guards. Time and resources won’t allow for the fabrication of athletic mouth guards for all the school districts we serve, but we have ordered supplies for Hillsboro ISD, Abbott ISD and Aquilla ISD varsity teams. This is our second year to provide free mouth guards and we are excited to get going again.

You might ask: why a custom made mouthguard? Obviously any mouthguard will help protect a players teeth, but an article from the May/June 2014 journal General Dentistry found that players who wore a store bought athletic mouthguard were more than twice as likely to suffer mild traumatic brain injuries than those wearing custom made mouth guards.

Mouthguards are serious and that’s why we hare happy to provide mouth guards to those schools listed above. If you are a varsity player or a parent for Hillsboro, Abbott or Aquilla, please contact our office so that we can take the steps necessary to make your mouth guard.

We hope for a successful and safe season for all the schools in Hill County!
