Pictured is my favorite brand of floss (check most Wal-Marts and some grocery stores).
One of my favorite instructors from dental school, Gary Coleman (no…not the actor), coined an interesting phrase: ‘the string thing’
So… what is the ‘string thing’? Well, quite honestly, the ‘string thing’ is what separates a healthy mouth from a not so healthy mouth. When I am visiting with a new patient, I usually ask the dreaded question: Do you floss? You can guess what the usual response is….NO! When I do find that one in a million patient who does take the time to floss, I can usually expect to find a relatively healthy and clean mouth even if that patient has not seen a dentist in a few years. Wow! What an amazing difference the ‘string thing’ makes.
So… what can you do to freshen your breath and avoid the smell of death between your teeth?? You guessed it, take the time to gently scrub each surface of each tooth using floss at least once per day. Your dentist will thank you…and so would Dr. Coleman.
